Which bin for plastic bags and carrier bags?
Usual answer in the UK
Take-back Shop or take-back point
Most kerbside bins do not take carrier bags yet. Take clean bags to a supermarket soft plastics point, or reuse them.
Also possible: General waste bin.
How to prepare it
From 31 March 2027, councils in England must collect plastic film and bags with plastic recycling.
Common mistakes
Do not put recycling into the bin inside a bag unless your council asks you to.
Does every council do this?
Most councils follow the answer above, but bins and sorting rules are set locally, and a few councils still do things differently. If your bin has a sticker, or your council sent a leaflet, follow that. Enter your postcode to go straight to your council's guidance.
