Editorial policy
Our aim
Every page should help a UK household put the right bin out on the right day. We write in plain English, keep pages short where we can, and say clearly when something depends on your council.
Sources we rely on
- GOV.UK for bank holidays and national rules such as Simpler Recycling.
- Council websites for local services and bin day checkers.
- Official statistics and boundaries from the Office for National Statistics.
- Recognised bodies such as WRAP, Recycle Now, Zero Waste Scotland and the Welsh Government for recycling guidance.
Checking and updates
Guides show the date they were last updated. We review them when national rules change, before bank holiday seasons and when readers report a problem. Corrections are made promptly and the updated date changed.
Use of AI tools
We sometimes use AI writing tools to help draft and structure guides. Every guide is reviewed, fact-checked against the sources above and edited by Steve K before it is published.
Independence
No council, retailer or advertiser can pay to change our advice. Adverts, if shown, are clearly separate from the content.
