Bin Collection Day

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026

This policy explains what happens to information when you use Bin Collection Day (https://bincollectionday.org.uk). The site is run by Steve K in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller. Contact: [email protected].

Postcode lookups

When you search a full postcode, your browser sends it directly to postcodes.io, a free public service that returns the council for that postcode. We do not receive or store your postcode on any server. If you use "Use my location", your browser asks for permission and sends your approximate coordinates to postcodes.io to find the nearest postcode. Your last search may be remembered in your own browser so you can see it again; you can clear it by clearing site data.

Bin calendar

Your bin types, dates and settings are saved in your browser's local storage on your device only. They are never sent to us. A share link contains your settings inside the link itself, so anyone you send it to can see them.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location. We do not use it to identify you.

Advertising

The site does not currently show adverts. If we add advertising, partners such as Google may use cookies to show and measure ads, and we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Email

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages securely and protect against attacks.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
