Which bin for clothes and textiles?
Usual answer in the UK
Take-back Shop or take-back point
Wearable clothes can go to charity shops, clothing banks or retailer take-back schemes. Some councils collect textiles in a bag next to the recycling bin.
Also possible: Household waste recycling centre (the tip); Special collection or specialist disposal.
Common mistakes
Do not put clothes in the mixed recycling bin unless your council says so. They tangle sorting machines.
Does every council do this?
Most councils follow the answer above, but bins and sorting rules are set locally, and a few councils still do things differently. If your bin has a sticker, or your council sent a leaflet, follow that. Enter your postcode to go straight to your council's guidance.
