Bin colours
What goes in the green bin?
Usually: Garden waste in many areas, mixed recycling in others. Green is the most mixed-up bin colour in the UK, so check your council.
Green bins cause the most confusion. In many English districts a green bin is the paid garden waste bin for grass, leaves and hedge cuttings. In other places, including parts of Wales and some cities, a green bin or box is for recycling. A small green caddy is often for food waste.
Tips for your green bin
- If you pay a yearly fee for it, it is a garden waste bin.
- Never put plastic bags in garden waste. They contaminate the compost.
